Erm... oops!

The kittens are only five months old aren't they? Not six months. So there's no desperate hurry for the snip. I'm so sorry if I worried anyone, I miscounted! It seems like they left years ago, it really does. *sigh* Give them all a kiss from me please!

They can be 'done' now if you like though. Only you know your kitten, and what the right time is for them. Standard advice is 6 months for a girl and 6-8 months for a boy, although I wouldn't leave it as late as that for a boy to be honest. The earlier you have it done the easier it is on them anyway- Sulley just had his done and D reports he was running around in his usual bonkers fashion afterwards. It's a bit more involved for girls, but even then if its done at 6 months its no big deal.

Of course if you have a boy who starts being much more aggressive all of a sudden, develops suddenly very impressive genitalia (my goodness have you seen an unneutered Tomcat? I'm surprised they can walk!) or even *horrors* starts backing up to surfaces and waggling his tail about (spraying, some kittens go through the motions of spraying before they actually spray) then that's a very big hint that you need to neuter him ASAP! And if your girl goes into heat you'll know all about it. Tonks can do this at 6 months, so don't leave it too late!

But you have a few weeks. I'm sorry if I alarmed anyone... silly me!

  1. The J's had no idea what had happened to them - which could explain why they still walk as if there is something significant there!!!

    1. ROFL. Theo still walks the walk -and sprays the spray, sadly, because I left it too long before having him snipped!

    2. Dare I say - I've never had 'the spray' - too late, I've said it!

    3. Oops! So you did! But never fear, it would be odd for them to start now *touches the desk, frantically*

  2. When we adopted Dom at 6 months he had a whopping pair and smelt like a Tom and had a big attitude to match, the vet said he was more than ready! However, he is a big black and white moggy, with a smaller slighter breed it might be different.
I haven't seen Mojo backing up or waggling but he has been showing a bit of machismo in the last few days.. so it wont be long!

  3. sulley certainly had an impressive set and I was beggining to wonder if it was those or his wonky leg that was causing him to walk like john wayne. he also weighs an impressive 3.5kg (which is a kg heavier than my 18 year old peggy) so the vet decided he was plenty "developed" enough to be done. the last thing i want is for him to go outside and be lost or stolen by a passer by as he is so people orientated he would go straight to anyone to say hello. my other cats are outdoor cats and he was beggining to show an interest so hopefully the snip will make him less interested :)

  4. ROFL @ John Wayne!

  5. they are still inseperable although hes getting a little too big for the boy to carry round so arm the boy generally picks him up under his front legs and sulley kids of runs along on his back legs behind him. hilarious to watch but sulley doesnt seem to object at all
