And Then There Was One

Lucy!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

It's the angle, she's not really almost the size of her Mama!

She's doing fine. She took up residence on the bed yesterday, today her and Indigo have commandeered the cubby in the big cat tree. She seems pretty happy and relaxed, is eating fine and things seem pretty calm here.

Poor Lucy had an accident yesterday. My son's tutor was in the living room where her litter boxes are, and I hadn't even considered she might not want to use the boxes in the hall- but they have a totally different litter (hard silica as opposed to soft clumping clay) and smell of the other cats who she is a little wary of so I guess it's a bit overwhelming for her to use them. So she widdled on the floor and looked terribly sheepish about it too. Poor Lucy!

I am replacing the litter in one of the hall boxes (there are three!) with the litter she uses to prevent any future issues, and will of course strategically place some nuggets of Lucy- pee on it to entice her in! Anyway there has been no issues since then.

I'll probably take the rest of the week off from blogging and be back next week with the last of the pics of the babies before they left then posts now and then. Not daily of course, now the babies have gone. Theo's been unwell again (sigh), I have a dissertation to write and I want to get the kitten room scrubbed out really well, so there's plenty to occupy my time- that and I have an enchanting new kitten to play with *grin* But there will be kitten updates I am sure, and lots of Lucy news.

Right, excuse me while I go and pet her again... I can't quite believe she's mine!

Goodbye, Susan and Jewel!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

So Susan and Jewel have left us, leaving just Lucy. I shouldn't call them that actually, they have brand new names, more Disney ones! Susan is named Nala and Jewel is named Sarabi, from The Lion King.

I LOVE The Lion King, best Disney film ever in my opinion!

Anyway they are safely in their new home and being waited on by two very surprised and excited little girls. Wish I'd been a fly on the wall to see that!

Bye sweeties!

Goodbye, Aravis and Caspian!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Well, the babies have been in their new home for a little while now and are doing well. They made themselves a little hidey safe space and are using that as a base, making regular forays out to explore and cuddle, although I am told that Caspian got a bit of a fright this morning when the boiler clicked on!

Once again, brother is leading the way and sister is following on behind. Funny little things. I'm so glad mine are all going in pairs this time. Bye bye darlings!

Let's have just one last look at Caspian's very silly tail...

Goodbye, Jadis and Digory!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Jadis and Digory, 12.5 weeks

Figaro and Tigerlily, as they are now called, went home yesterday evening. Apparently Mr Confident was off exploring almost straight away with Tiggy trailing after him, and the new cat tree was a hit. I can just picture it. Good job kittens!

Goodness the house is quiet without my boisterous, rambunctious Digory! It hardly seems as though I have kittens at all (I will be singing a different tune later on when two more go!) I missed my morning snuggles with Tiggy too, but I know she and her brother are getting plenty of them anyway!

Goodbye babies, It's been a pleasure xxx

Did someone turn the heating up?

My kittens appear to be melting!

So stressed...

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I wish they'd just relax...

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I mean, really!

So, everything is ready. The 4 weeks insurance was activated yesterday (I like to do it a day or two early... I know they SAY you are covered from the moment of activation, but I like to be on the safe side!) The paperwork is all filled out and ready, kitten packs all packed... we're ready to go.

And the kittens are ready. In the wild, at this age, they'd just be starting to strike out on their own. Mama would probably already be pregnant with the next batch, and would be nudging the kittens off and out into the wider world. And you can tell, they want out of the kitten room, they want to widen their boundaries, explore and have adventures.

Oh kittens. There's a BIG adventure in store for you this weekend!

Still Nursing

Oh Inds. Aren't they getting a little bit too old for all that?

Really?

Couple of outtakes

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Lucy gives me the Ears of Annoyance

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

While Jewel says 'Where's my dinner, lady?'

Oh boy. The kittens have officially outgrown the kitten room. They've been racketing around like little hooligans today, knocked drums over, pulled some paperwork (a bill, nothing kitten related, thank goodness!) to shreds and landed in the food bowl sending kibble flying all over the room. Twice.

They are currently all at the gate telling me they are WASTING AWAY TO NOTHING HERE because they can smell cooked chicken for their dinner but it isn't cool enough to give them it yet.

I got some toys from the toy drawer earlier (to send to a friend) and was immediately surrounded by seven howling kittens and one Mama. Yup, even though they have their own well stocked toy box, they've figured out there are more in the drawer and could they have some? I also had Theo thumping on the door because he, also, knows the toy drawer sound and wanted one too. Stuffed mice all round!

The second bowl of kibble went flying at this point. Sigh!

Squish!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Yes, we still fits here...

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

we fits here too...

Bit of a squash, though, eh kittens?

The babies haven't had quite so spectacular a growth spurt as last time, (appetite always drops off for a day or two following jabs) but they've done pretty well nonetheless. These are the final stats, although I can weigh kittens on collection if wanted. They are off this weekend... the days are going too fast this week!

Susan Needs Some Lovin'

I lie here and look cute and you pet me, ok?

Or here, I nuzzle your hand.

I just sit here and look at you till you give me strokies. Right, lady???

As you can see, I have such a hard life here with the kittens. Cuddles coming up, Susan!

Oh That Sunday Sleep

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Yup. That's Caspian, doing his thing.

Kittens had one last visit from my Mum today, and they made the most of the visit. I think at one point she was immobilised by five of them, but I suspect none of them enjoyed it quite as much as Caspian. That's one smug face, right there. What can I say, the boy just likes his cuddles!

Hope you are enjoying the sunshine! The kittens are. Born in the middle of winter, and then having such persistent rain and gloomy weather in January and February means that the kittens haven't really discovered the joys of a good sun-puddle until this week... they are absolutely loving it. Their room gets a lot of afternoon sun, which coincides perfectly with their favoured sleepy time.

Me, I'm just glad to be able to put the washing out!

Jewel In The Sun

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

She adores that stuffed mouse... she walks around with it, growling, and then snuggles up with it to sleep. Here she is enjoying an afternoon sunbeam.

Last jabs today, and the babies did really well once again. They are getting so big now that I did wonder if I ought to take THREE carriers, but decided they could all squash into the two. After all, I only have two arms, so more than two carriers gets a little complicated!

Later on, I set to and sorted out all the babies' paperwork. It was a bit complicated, and you will see when you get the paperwork that they are registered under a different system than their parents. So The 'solid' kittens, who would have previously been registered as 74 (Tonkinese) b (chocolate) qv (solid variant) are now TOS (Tonkinese shorthair) b (chocolate) 31 (Burmese colour restriction). Indigo is 74cqv, so I suppose under the new system she'd be TOSc31. Not that you need to know any of this! Just waffling. Anyway it took some time. After printing out all the pedigrees I noticed a mistake... I'd forgotten to edit the header so it had a nice big 'type text here' on the page! Grr. So I had to delete that and print them all out again.

And then I felt all sad that our time together was nearly over. Just one more week. It's a bittersweet business, this breeding! But I know they have fantastic new families who are counting down the days as eagerly as I am wishing they'd slow down! It helps, believe me.

That was a bit depressing! Bedtime for me, I think, was up at 5 to take the lad for an early start school trip, so am definitely ready for my bed tonight! Nothing much planned for tomorrow so I'll try and get some good photos of the babies. Goodnight :)

Snoopervising

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Another one of Lucy, just because :)

Oh, kittens, kittens, kittens. Just a week and a bit before home time, and the babies are showing signs of cabin fever! One reasonably sized living room just isn't cutting it for seven baby elephants any more! That half- hexagon gate I had my friend build has been worth it's weight in gold, because whenever I open the kitten door I am instantly swarmed with furry things... but they can't get very far because of the gate. We've only had a couple of breakouts in the whole time. Of course now I've said that...

But they are curious, and not at all intimidated by what might be out there. Definitely ready, now, for the next big adventure- moving on, away from Mama to their forever homes, building relationships with their new people and getting on with the business of growing up! Lucy is spending several hours out of the kitten room every day now, and whilst the older cats aren't exactly her friend, yet, and there's been no snuggling, they will stalk her in a friendly, or at least, non aggressive, manner, and touch noses.

When they aren't trying to explore, they have quite a nice routine going on. Meals three times a day, just before which they insist that they are ABSOLUTELY STARVED AND ABOUT TO FADE AWAY TO NOTHING, LADY, and post meals they all have a lovely cuddly spell while they wash their faces and digest. Jewel and Aravis are canny at mealtimes, they have realised that if they eat lightly, they get the prime cuddling spots afterwards. Aravis quite often goes back to have more later on, and Jewel, even from a young age, has preferred the kibble anyway. She does like wet food, she just doesn't go loopy for it (Caspian, Digory and Lucy, I am looking at you) and is definitely an all day grazer rather than big meals. Anyway they are the first for cuddles.  Aravis takes the lap and Jewel snuggles into my neck and both start up their engines while the others are still filling their faces... awww sweet girls.

The mornings generally sees them quite playful, they have a long napping period in the afternoon and wake up again for more romping come evening. It's funny, morning naps, proper 'catnaps' in that they are generally brief, take place on me if I happen to be in there, (the other day I had all seven on me which was a bit overwhelming given their size now!) but the long nap is taken in small groups and if I pick anyone up they are likely to protest and stomp crossly back to where they were. None of the above applies to Caspian, who is ALWAYS up for a cuddle.

Yesterday they had another nail trim, and afterwards I wasn't their friend at all for a good minute. LOL I do love them at this age, so forgiving! Last jabs tomorrow and a quiet weekend for them to recuperate and they'll be on top form for next weekend :)

Two years ago...

... in Indigo's Von Trapp litter, there was a kitten called Marta. Here she is.

Oh, she was the sweetest thing! I just adored her. She used to sit on my shoulder and snuggle and purr into my ear, which is something Indigo did as a kitten. This radiator is just by my desk and she'd snuggle on that and trill every now and then as if to say cuddles, please! Not had any for at least ten minutes!

Now, I love all my kittens. I do. but Marta had... oh I can't even describe what it was, there was just something about her that appealed to ME. I could see her being MY cat, had the time been right. It wasn't though. I knew when I did keep a kitten I wanted a mink (TCR) coat and I did have a yen for chocolate. And by the time this picture was taken Marta had a good home to go to anyway. She had a slightly too Burmese (for breeding, in my opinion) face and was one of the smallest of the litter... but nevertheless for ages after she'd gone home I wondered if I'd made the right decision in making her available. There was a moment, just before advertising them, when I thought... I could just keep this one back. And I didn't.

It was the right decision.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

because now I have Lucy. A big, chunky, chocolate mink, with the same enchanting qualities I admired I her half-sister Marta. Who also likes to snuggle on the radiator by the desk, and sit on my shoulder tickling my ear with her whiskers, just like her sister and Mama used to.

Right kitten, right time. I'm glad I waited for you, Lucy!

Jadis Gives A Bath

Jadis clearly thinks her siblings need to brush up on their bathing skills. She can often be found washing one or the other of them, especially the boys. Well, you know how stinky boys are.

Caspian's a bit of a reluctant recipient of these impromptu baths, he seems to feel he can give himself a bath thank you very much bossy big sis! But Digory loves them,. He sort of drifts off into a trance, purring gently, and is 'dopey' for a good few minutes after she's finished.

She's such a sweetheart!

Theo is currently in a sulk. His ruse this evening was to ask to come in the kitten room, not make a fuss when I took the crunchies away (he can't have them) then sit very quietly under the table for an hour so I wouldn't notice him when it came to the kittens' dinner time. He was utterly outraged when it didn't work. Nice try boy, but you'll have to do better than that.

Cuddles with Caspian

Caspian does this thing that is incredibly cute. If you are stroking him he pushes his little head back against your hand harder and harder and purrs and purrs with happiness. I got it in video, you can see how he's throwing himself back to get a harder stroke on his little head

His Mama does this too, and it is very endearing.

Anyway, the other day he tipped his head back so hard when being petted that he fell of my lap and onto the floor! *sniggering* poor Caspian! Oh, it was funny. But he got right back up for more strokes, so clearly his head or his ego wasn't too dented by the mishap.

Digory and stats

Speaking of naughty kittens, I don't think it will surprise anyone that this one is the naughtiest of the lot...

But he gets away with it, because he is heartbreakingly handsome.

And he's going to be a big boy. Would you look at the size of his paw??? He isn't even eleven weeks old yet! G, I hope you are ready!

The Andrex Kittens Strike Again

Yup. I have got through an awful lot of toilet rolls these past few days with seemingly non-stop sneezing and nose blowing, and I was silly enough to forget and leave a roll in the kitten room overnight. On a shelf. Apparently the kittens can get onto the shelves now.

anyway so I went in with their food the next morning, and was greeted with another snowstorm, only this time I went to fetch the camera. It isn't as impressive as last time, but you get the general idea!

At Indikon, we only breed naughty kittens of course, but you know, I have a sneaking suspicion Mama may have been involved too... *grin*

Uncle Theo

Because Theo has been unwell, and has had dietary restrictions, he hasn't had as much to do with these kittens as he has in previous litters. Lucy he knows quite well because she's been having daily outings to see the other cats, but the others, not so much. It's been a shame really, as he does love kittens. Unfortunately he also loves the kittens' food so can only come in once I have swept and cleaned, and if I put the food away.

As a result, he's very much a curiosity to them still. They are interested in him though, and now he is feeling a bit better, he's taking more time to come and sit in the kitten room. Often he isn't energetic enough to play, but he does enjoy watching.

As for the girls, the thought of coming in the kitten's room would utterly appal them. They've all sniffed at each other  through the gate, and that's as far as it is likely to go. Neither Ava nor Sofia's curiosity goes as far as a desire to actually socialise with the kittens!

It's a shame about Theo though. He has missed it. He's such a loving boy, I'm glad he will at least get the chance to enjoy Lucy as she grows up. And now he's a bit better, maybe he'll make up for lost time? Whatever, totally his choice. I'm just glad he's on the mend at last.

Posts may be a bit thin on the ground tor a day or two as I have started a cold and feel a bit grim! Also someone went into the side of my car at the weekend! No-one was hurt and the other driver accepted full responsibility straight away, so no unpleasantness in that respect and no repercussions for me but it was still a shock! I have received all the paperwork relating to that to complete, so I will plough through that tomorrow... not what you want when your brain feels like scrambled knitting!

A Message From Caspian, Part 2

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Hallo, Peoples of the Internets! I is here again to tell you some very important things about me because they are very important. I do not bite my sisters on the bottom (very much) any more because they is quite good at biting back and anyway I is a big grown up boy now. But I is still the cutest.

See?

I likes to roll on my back because it makes the funny lady go 'Oooooh!'  and rush to give me tummy rubs, which I likes a lot and I purrs and purrs so she gives me lots of cuddles and kisses. I likes cuddles and kisses so I does this a lot.

When I is in the mood for playing I goes and finds a toy. Sometimes I can't decide, so I sits in the toybox and has a little think. But my favourite is the crinkly ball. And the mousie. And the feather stick. And, and, and...

See my greenie eyes? I is very handsome, yes?

I does still like to climb though! The funny lady says that my new Mummy and Daddy have bought me a new climby frame just for ME!!!! (OK, and my sister) which I can't waits to try out!

Also, I likes that big kitty who comes in here sometimes, and the Funny Lady is annoyed, because she thought she had a good video of me stalking the floofy cat but she had pressed the wrong buttons on her clicky box thing and said a Very Rude Word Indeed. But anyways I likes his big floofy tail and pounces on it when I gets the chance and sometimes he gives my head a wash and sometimes he gives me a smack. But I likes him anyway.

And also I hasn't been a Little Scrap for ages n ages and am now bigger than most of my sisters, so there.

Love from Caspian xxx

We had a photo session the other day, and.... well... I don't think the girls were really up for it. Definitely giving me some attitude in these shots!

Noisy Mama, Sleepy Babies

Hahaha!

I love this video. 1) because it shows the sheer noise Indigo makes when she is on heat (she isn't even in the room at the time, that's how loud she is) and 2) that the kittens could not care less. I don't think there's so much as an ear twitch from any of them.

You'd better believe though, if I came into the room with a plate of food, they'd be up and mewing within five seconds!
